FULL GOSPEL MISSION - GUERNSEY

History

The Building

1864:

A period of revival commenced in our Island (Guernsey).

1882:

Two Ministers who used to meet in houses bought the plot of land on which our Church stands.  (At that time the plot of land was known as “The Field”.)  The Ministers then built a Church on the site.

1889:

The Ministers sold the Church to independent people.

1952:

Fire destroyed the original building and a new one was built.  In 1952 the assembly at St Clares Hill moved into the building and called it St Clares.

Some years later the building stopped being used as a Church.

1995:

Full Gospel Mission purchased the building and set about restoring and upgrading it.

1997:

Work was completed in February 1997.

Full Gospel Mission

(An independent Church not affiliated to any other Church or Mission.)

1965:

The Full Gospel Mission (Guernsey) was founded by Pastor William (Bill) Mauger and his wife, Eunice.  (Both have now gone to be with the Lord.)

They held the Meetings in their home at Compton, Pointues Rocques, St Sampsons.

The Spirit of the Lord moved and many souls came to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and were baptised into the name of Jesus.  Numerous miracles of healing and provision etc. happened and continue.

During the following six years the congregation grew to the point that their lounge and dining room could no longer hold all the people.

1971:

A large outbuilding on the site at Compton was converted into a Church meeting place.

The work started in Pastor Mauger’s home continued in the Church building.  The move from the house gave opportunity for Christians to be married on the premises, and many blessed weddings took place.

As the years went by the Church building at Compton became less suitable for the needs of the congregation and mission work.  Finding a suitable property where the Authorities would grant permission for use as a Church proved very difficult. Nevertheless, the Congregation continued to save for a property and to seek the Lord’s guidance in the matter.

1995:

The then owner of St Clares (our current property), which was then being used as a table tennis club called Whistlers, mentioned to one of the congregation that he was looking to sell.  The member of the congregation made the owner aware of the Full Gospel Missions need for such a property and interest in purchasing it.

The Congregation of the Full Gospel Mission moved swiftly to secure the property.  The funds available meant the property was purchased and restored debt free - God’s timing is always perfect.

The other challenge at that time was to get the Authorities consent to change the building’s registered use back to that of a Place of Worship.  Application was made and it was found that previous owners had not applied for a change of use; the property was still legally registered as a Place of Worship. God had worked another miracle.

The property was subsequently renamed “Full Gospel Mission”.

1997:

Buillding work was completed in February 1997. Since then the building has been the meeting place of the Full Gospel Mission congregation.

God’s work continues at the Full Gospel Mission; lives are changed, people are healed, fed the Word of God and infilled with the Holy Spirit.
